Former Hostess general counsel Kent Magill joins Stinson Morrison Hecker in KC
Kent Magill, former general counsel at Hostess, has joined the corporate finance division of Stinson Morrison Hecker in Kansas City. He will practice in the areas of corporate governance, securities, finance, mergers and acquisitions and legal compliance.
“Our firm has had the opportunity to work closely with Kent through much of his career and we feel fortunate that he has elected to resume his private law practice with us,” said Mark Hinderks, managing partner at Stinson. “He is a seasoned and experienced business and legal advisor who has successfully guided companies through a variety of opportunities and challenges. His breadth of understanding as a general counsel will be a tremendous asset to our firm and our clients.”
During his nearly 12-year tenure at Hostess, Magill was responsible for advising senior management regarding a wide array of legal issues, including securities, commercial, corporate, and regulatory, as well as managing the company’s litigation. He helped steer the company through its 55-month Chapter 11 bankruptcy, during which Hostess remained a public company.
Prior to Hostess, Magill was vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary with Layne Christensen Company, a publicly traded mineral exploration and water supply company. During his 8-year post at Layne, he established and managed the legal department and helped guide Layne through its initial public offering. Before joining Layne, Magill was in-house at The Marley Company (now SPX Cooling Technologies).
