Jackson County Circuit judge lands starring role in damage cap case

By definition, every 4-3 opinion of the Missouri Supreme Court hinges on the vote of one judge. But last week’s ruling overturning the cap on noneconomic damages in medical malpractice cases was one of the rare few where the deciding vote arguably fell to someone who isn’t a permanent member of the court.
