Kansas City Legal Leaders Awards

The Kansas City Daily Record Legal Leaders Awards recognize those who have demonstrated leadership, integrity, service, sacrifice and accomplishment in improving the quality of justice in their communities and exemplified the highest ideals of the legal profession. The awards reach out to exemplary community leaders from the bar, the bench, public office, business, academia, non-profits and the community at large.

Recipients will be honored at the awards ceremony on March 27, 2009 and will be featured in the Kansas City Daily Record and Missouri Lawyers Weekly.

UMKC Student Legal Leader: Awarded to those law students at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, who demonstrate leadership, professionalism and a passion for making a difference in the justice system and the community.

Legal Scholar Legal Leader: Awarded to faculty or staff at area law schools who demonstrate leadership through their own work with the justice system, their research or scholarship, or through teaching and inspiring others.

Rising Legal Leader: Awarded to lawyers 40 years old and younger or within the first 10 years of practice whose public service improves the quality of his or her community and contributes to the improvement of the justice system.

Criminal Justice Legal Leader: Recognizes those criminal defense attorneys and prosecutors who exemplify the highest ideals of the profession and make a difference in the local community.

Civil Justice Legal Leader: Recognizes those civil practitioners, plaintiffs and defense, who exemplify the highest ideals of the profession and make a difference in the local community.

Lawyer’s Lawyer Legal Leader: Recognizes those business lawyers and general practitioners who exemplify the highest ideals of the profession and make a difference in the local community.

Corporate Counsel Legal Leader: Awarded to attorneys in a business setting whose public service improves the quality of the community and exemplifies the highest ideals of the profession.

Law Firm Pro Bono Legal Leader: Recognizes innovative law firm community service projects that make a difference and set an example.

Law Firm Manager Legal Leader: Recognizes top law firm managers and executives for fostering a culture of the highest professionalism and dedication to community service.

Judicial Legal Leader: Recognizes judges whose public service improves the quality of his or her community and contributes to the improvement of the justice system.

Public Official Legal Leader: Recognizes public officials whose public service improves the quality of the community and contributes to the improvement of the justice system.

Community Legal Leader: Awarded generally, though not necessarily, to non- lawyers who improve the quality justice in the community-at-large.

Legal Leader of The Year: The highest honor of the day, recognizing that legal professional who truly stands out in making an extraordinary difference in improving the quality of his or her community and exemplifying the highest ideals of the legal profession.
