Purpose

The Women’s Justice Awards recognize women across the state of Missouri who have demonstrated leadership, integrity, service, sacrifice and accomplishment in improving the quality of justice and furthering the highest ideals of the legal profession. The awards reach out to women in various segments of our community, including the bar, the bench, public office, civil service, business, academia, non-profits and the state-at-large.

Nominations
Self-nominations are permitted. Nominations will remain active for 1-2 years.

Nominations should include:

I. Completed nomination form.

c. Contact Bonnie McCabe at bonnie.mccabe@molawyersmedia.com or 314-558-3202, and she will email you a nomination form.

II. A letter of nomination from the nominator to the selection committee explaining how the nominee fulfills the award category for which she’s being nominated.

III. Honorees are expected to attend the awards ceremony and related activities leading up to it. A nominee’s unavailability may prelude her eligibility for an award.

Nominations may also include:

  1. Additional letters of support.
  2. A copy of the nominee’s resume or curriculum vitae.
  3. Articles published about the nominee.

2010 Women’s Justice Awards honorees will be notified by February 1, 2010, and celebrated at an elegant reception and presentation on April 22, 2010.

Award Categories

Leaders of Tomorrow Awards
Awarded to women law students at area law schools who demonstrate leadership, professionalism and a passion for making a difference in the justice system or the legal profession.

Rising Star Awards
Awarded to women lawyers 40 or under or within the first 10 years of practice who have already made a difference in the justice system or the profession and who appear on a path toward even greater accomplishment.

Legal Scholar Awards
Awarded to women faculty members or administrators at area law schools who fulfill the above ideals through their own work with the justice system, through their research or scholarship, or through teaching and inspiring others.

Citizenship Awards
Generally, though not necessarily, awarded to women non-lawyers who fulfill the above ideals in improving the quality of justice in the community at large.

Enterprise Awards
Awarded to women in a business setting, be they entrepreneurs, executives, corporate counsel or other business professionals, who fulfill the above ideals in contributing to the improvement of the justice system.

Trial Practitioner Awards
Awarded to women trial practitioners who fulfill the above ideals in improving the quality of justice or contributing to the betterment of the profession.

Business Practitioner Awards
Awarded to women business practitioners who fulfill the above ideals in improving the quality of justice or contributing to the betterment of the profession.

Public Official Awards
Awarded to women judges and other public officials whose public service fulfills the above ideals in improving the quality of justice.

Public Service Practitioner Awards
Awarded to women government and non-profit lawyers who improve the quality of justice or contribute to the betterment of the profession.

Woman of the Year
The biggest award of the evening, recognizing that woman whose fulfillment of the above ideals truly stands out in making an extraordinary difference in improving the quality of justice or exemplifying the highest ideals of the legal profession. Awarded in lieu of any of the above awards to a woman selected from among the nominees for those other awards.
