Judge Richard Callahan has been tapped to become the federal prosecutor for Eastern Missouri.

President Barack Obama today announced his picks for four U.S. attorney openings. He chose Callahan, a circuit judge in Jefferson City, to take over the U.S. attorney’s office in St. Louis. The previous U.S. attorney was Catherine Hanaway. The others named today are from Montana and Iowa.

This is a good thing. Callahan was a great judge and an excellent (and fair) prosecutor. His appointment to the Eastern District spot is a good thing for Missouri.
