Law firm news

Kansas City-based Polsinelli Shughart is planning to add a 13-attorney Denver firm, announcing that six partners from the firm will join while the remaining seven lawyers have offers.

The group of attorneys from the Denver firm Hensley Kim will join effective Nov. 1. Their practices include corporate law, intellectual property, real estate, construction and business litigation.

The firm announced Tuesday that the following firm partners are joining: Darren Hensley, John Kim, Stacy Carpenter, Ryan Warren, Michael Dulin and Paul Franke.

Polsinelli’s managing partner in Denver, Gene Commander, said his firm has made offers to the seven other attorneys in the firm and he’s hopeful they will join.

He said he wasn’t at liberty to discuss the terms of the firm’s addition of lawyers.

With the recruitment of 13 attorneys from Hensley Kim, Polsinelli would have about a 50-attorney Denver office, meaning an increased presence compared with other Missouri-based firms that have recently expanded in Denver.

In July, Husch Blackwell said it would more than double its Denver practice to about 40 lawyers. Last year, Lathrop & Gage announced it was adding 21 lawyers to its Denver office through a merger, making a 37-attorney office.

Polsinelli is not shy about expanding. In April, the Denver office added 11 health care attorneys to the firm’s health care group. Also, Polsinelli recently opened offices in Dallas and Los Angeles.

However, a group of Polsinelli attorneys in Chicago recently defected. Midwest firm Michael Best & Friedrich announced last week that it had recruited a team of two partners, two associates and two legal assistants from Polsinelli. The group joined Michael Best & Friedrich’s life sciences practice in Chicago.
