What is the Corporate Counsel Desk Book?

CCDB 2015 web-1When we invented the Missouri Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel Desk Book five years ago, we set out to compile a single-volume ready reference covering the region’s corporate legal departments. We also set out to make each subsequent edition an improvement on its predecessor. Here are just a few of this year’s system upgrades.

They start with our in-house counsel directory, the core of the project. We’ve expanded our list of regional legal departments to 211 companies, compared with 189 last year. As a result, our roster of in-house lawyers has grown to 1,170 from the prior year’s 988.

In a similar vein, our list of law firms has lengthened. Missouri Lawyers Weekly debuted a special supplement this year called The Firms. It supplanted what we used to call the Big 50, annual rankings of Missouri law firms based on in-state headcount. This year we extended our census to all Missouri firms with 15 or more lawyers. The upshot is that our law firm list shot up from 50 to 69. Inside you’ll find key statistics on each.

For all these expanded listings, we actually managed to reduce the page count of this book. We count that as an improvement too. Design Director Lora Wegman has reconfigured the directory listings to make more efficient use of space and also your time as you do your who’s-who perusal.

In that sense, you could say we’ve managed to do more with less, which is only fitting, given what’s going on in so many legal departments these days.

As for next year’s set of improvements, we turn to you. As always, we welcome your suggestions to make the Missouri Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel Desk Book of even greater use.
