Civil War court records now available

History buffs now have a new treasure trove of firsthand documents in St. Louis city.

Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and St. Louis Circuit Clerk Mariano Favazza plan to announce later today that more than 11,000 old cases from St. Louis Circuit Court are now available to the public. The case files cover the Civil War era, 1866 through 1868.

The project of preserving and organizing the files was made possible with a $330,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to the Missouri State Archives, a part of the secretary of state’s office.
