Joplin Police Chief Lane Roberts says the FBI will investigate the theft of funds from Joplin’s annual summer festival, Boomtown Days.
Roberts said Tuesday that police had received a report that money was taken from the event’s funds.
The Joplin Globe reports that the festival’s financial chairwoman, Kim Lester, who worked for the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, resigned from the chamber last week.
The exact amount of missing money has not been released.
Roberts says the FBI is investigating because some police department and other city employees work on the festival.
