Republican Tom Schweich promises that he will tenaciously point out both problems and successes in government in his new job as Missouri auditor.
Schweich took the oath of office Monday during an inaugural ceremony at the Missouri Capitol. He defeated Democratic Auditor Susan Montee in the November election.
Missouri’s auditor has power only to point out and recommend changes in government. But Schweich pledged to work with the agencies he audits to ensure his audit recommendations are implemented.
The keynote speaker for his inaugural ceremony was former U.S. Sen. John Danforth, a longtime friend and colleague who encouraged Schweich to run for elected office. Danforth said Schweich is “exceptionally energetic,” “well organized” and likely to “drive all of you in state government nuts.”
