Gov. Jay Nixon has named two attorneys to the University of Missouri Board of Curators.
Today he announced his picks of Cassville attorney Donald Cupps and Columbia attorney Craig Van Matre.
Cupps practices at the Ellis, Cupps and Cole law firm in Cassville, where he often represents southwest Missouri farmers. He is also the attorney for the city of Cassville and the Barry County Industrial Development Authority, the governor’s office said. In addition, Cupps serves on the board of trustees for the Public School Retirement System of Missouri.
Van Matre practices with the firm of Van Matre, Harrison, Hollis, Pitzer & Taylor. His practice often involves complex financial transactions. He had served on the state Coordinating Board for Higher Education, but he stepped down from that position to serve on the board that governs the University of Missouri system.
Cupps earned both his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and his law degree from the University of Missouri. Van Matre obtained his bachelor’s degree in English and his law degree from the University of Missouri.
Cupps would be the 7th Congressional District representative on the board for a term that expires at the start of 2017. Van Matre would represent the 9th District and his term would end at the start of 2013. Both Democrats, their nominations must be confirmed by the Missouri Senate.
