Spencer Fane renews KC lease, announces expansion

Spencer Fane Britt & Browne is committing to staying put for at least 12 years and expanding its downtown Kansas City headquarters.

The MOney 20 firm on Wednesday announced the renewal of its lease and the planned renovation of its office space at 10th and Walnut streets.

Spencer Fane’s 55,000-square-foot office space will expand to 63,000 square feet and include a new conference center for client and social use and collaborative work space, according to a firm news release. Nelson, a global architectural firm specializing in law offices, designed the space. Centric Projects, a Kanas City contractor involved in several downtown projects, will complete the construction. Work is slated to begin this spring and be completed by the start of 2015.

The office will face a streetcar line under construction.

The firm is “thrilled to renew our commitment to downtown,” Patrick Whalen, the firm’s chairman, said in a news release.

Spencer Fane is on the MOney 20, Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s rankings of the state’s highest-grossing law firms. The firm had $54 million in gross revenue last year.
