Kansas City-based law firm Spencer Fane Britt & Browne is expanding to new offices in Springfield and Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The two new offices bring the firm to a total of eight across four states: Missouri, Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. In addition to Kansas City and Springfield, Spencer Fane has Missouri offices in St. Louis and Jefferson City, as well as a location in Overland Park, Kan.
The Springfield office, which opens in a temporary location Monday, will have a focus on real estate, construction and housing, financial services, education and litigation, according to a news release from the firm. Six former Husch Blackwell attorneys will be partners in the office: Charles B. Cowherd, Mike Nichols, Gary A. Powell, Jason C. Smith, Richard E. Walters and S. Shawn Whitney.
“Spencer Fane has long represented many clients in Springfield and throughout southwest Missouri and now will be able to do so more effectively and efficiently,” the news release said.
The Colorado Springs office opened June 2 and is led by Christopher Melcher, who has been named of counsel to the firm. Melcher was previously general counsel of The Colorado College and has experience in corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, real estate development and land planning, government affairs and municipal law, the news release said.
Spencer Fane already has an office in Denver.
“We’re excited to expand our ability to serve the needs of all our clients in these cities,” firm chair and managing partner Patrick Whalen said in the release.
Spencer Fane was No. 12 on this year’s MOney 20, Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s ranking of the top-grossing corporate firms in Missouri. The firm’s 2013 revenue was listed at more than $54 million.
