Law school: University of Missouri-Columbia

While she was a human resources manager, Jennifer Chierek Znosko was always impressed by the intelligence of the employment attorneys she met. Today, she’s one of them.

“Znosko is a top flight wage and hour litigator,” writes her nominator. “Her work on several pending Direct TV cases has resulted in multiple summary judgment wins.”

Znosko is fast becoming an expert on the new white collar overtime regulations going into effect soon and has done speaking engagements on everything from FLSA overtime regulations to the details of the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act.

She sits on the boards of directors for the Webster Child Care Center and Alpha Phi Omega and is the national legal counsel for the latter, which is only one aspect of the pro bono work which she does.

What has been your favorite moment as an attorney?

In 2015, I was the second chair of a jury trial on sex discrimination and retaliation claims under the Missouri Human Rights Act. My favorite moment was when the jury returned a complete defense verdict for our client. Immediately before this moment, I was probably the most nervous and anxious I have ever been in my legal career.
What advice do you have for young lawyers?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You will always learn more from your mistakes than you do from your successes.

What is something that would surprise people about you?

When I was in college, I played roller hockey recreationally. I still have the scars on my legs to prove it.
