Unsung Heroes 2018- Information Technology

  • Nicki R. Voyles

voyles-nickiOffice Administrator

HeplerBroom

Nicki Voyles is the glue that keeps the St. Louis office of HeplerBroom together. As office administrator, she fills several roles, including receptionist, information technology guru and legal-education facilitator. “[She’s] one of those people [whose] titles don’t necessarily mean much because it seems she is involved in everything,” firm partner Thomas J. Magee said in his nominating letter. “She is a dynamo and has injected herself into making the office run smoother and more efficient. More importantly, from a personal standpoint, she truly cares about everyone working here and those who visit the firm.”

What led you to choose a career in the legal field?

Honestly, I have a friend who works here, and I saw how much she loves it. So 12 years ago when I applied, I was one happy girl when I got the call saying I was hired.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be patient, work hard and help others because there may be a time that you will need help as well.

What is the best part of your job?

That’s easy . . . everything. I am very lucky that I love what I do and having an awesome firm to work for.

What is your favorite thing to do away from work?

Hiking and biking. I like to see beautiful scenery.

Anything else you want people to know?

I have fought breast cancer twice, and that was definitely a life-changer for me. I had a lot of help getting me through from my wife, family, friends and my family from HeplerBroom and the heavens above. So I tell people to live life, don’t let life live you. Get out there and do something you’ve always wanted to do. Doesn’t matter how big or small, just do it. Life is not promised, that’s for sure.
