Janelle Bailey’s message for fellow young lawyers is simple: Do what you love.
“Work hard, network well and enjoy the practice of law,” she said.
Her own career has taken her from the public sector, serving as a public defender and an assistant prosecutor, to being a big-law patent attorney, to now owning her own firm, Janelle Bailey LLC, which she opened in 2015. Since 2017, she also has served as an affiliated lawyer of Brad Bradshaw J.D. M.D. LC., working in both Kansas City and Springfield.
She says she can’t point to one particular favorite moment as an attorney. “I would say I have thoroughly enjoyed going to trial and fighting for my clients,” she said.
What inspired you to get involved in the legal profession?
I like solving problems. My undergraduate degree is in physics, which involved a lot of math. I really enjoyed solving math and physics problems. However, I equally enjoy helping people. The legal profession allows me to combine both by helping people solve legal problems.
What is something that would surprise people about you?
I am a classically trained pianist.
