Lindsay Mathews’ experience as a special education teacher with Teach for America and as a court-appointed special advocate and guardian ad litem moved her toward becoming a lawyer.

“I am passionate about advocating for children and safe families,” she said. “During 2020, I’m grateful I’ve been able to expand my practice to include mediations. Also, I survived working from home for two months with my toddler at my feet.”

Guiding people through domestic legal issues inspires Mathews to be a good listener and to consider all possible solutions. She meets each client at one of the most challenging points of their lives and works with them to realize the best possible outcome.

If you hadn’t become a lawyer, what profession would you have chosen?

Detective because I’m curious. Professional closet organizer because I love putting things into boxes. Neuroscientist because what do we know about the brain? Treetop bed and breakfast owner in Costa Rica because mangos.

What is your favorite moment as an attorney?

The phone call to a client after the judgment is entered to tell them the good news.

What advice do you have for young lawyers?

Surround yourself with people who support you and be that person for others. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. No one knows the answer to everything.
