Seyferth Blumenthal & Harris, Kansas City
A name partner of Seyferth, Blumenthal & Harris in Kansas City, Seyferth is active in employment litigation, a practice for which his firm is better known. But he also played a key role in obtaining a massive $433.7 million judgment for the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, now called the Health Forward Foundation, in its suit against hospital operator HCA.
The foundation sued HCA in 2009 after it had purchased Kansas City-area hospitals. The foundation alleged the company had built hospitals in the suburbs instead of updating facilities as promised.
Seyferth and his team secured a $433.7 million judgment for his client, the second-largest plaintiff’s judgment of that year, as tracked by Missouri Lawyers Media. The case ultimately settled for $188 million in January 2017.
He is a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and also the American College of Trial Lawyers. Outside of his law practice, Seyferth is active in martial arts, with a black belt in karate.
He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1987.
