2021 Unsung Legal Heroes: Alethea Michelle Williams

Firm Administration: Information Governance Compliance Supervisor, Stinson

alethea-williamsAlethea Williams became IG Compliance Supervisor in early 2020 and was immediately confronted with the challenge of rebranding the department and retraining her new team. Then the pandemic hit, forcing the firm into remote work.

Through it all, Williams worked with each person on her team, encouraging and motivating them while making sure they all had the tools and resources to perform their daily duties. Her nominator praised her “unparalleled communication,” her innovative approach to the job and her leadership.

“Alethea comes to work every day hopeful and with a smile which makes her very easy to work with, even on the busiest of days,” the nominator wrote.

What led you to choose a career in the legal field?

When I was in high school I joined the FBLA club (Future Business Leaders of America). At that time, the club took a field trip to the state capitol and the students were allowed to participate in a mock legislative session. I witnessed the making of how a bill is introduced into law. My mind was blown and my eyes opened to the many different possibilities. When I got older I pursued my dreams in a legal studies career.

What is the best part of your job?

Working with the people on my team, within my department and within the firm. Having the opportunity to encourage and motivate peers, colleagues and co-workers.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Take criticism or feedback for what it is — a gift to help elevate you through life’s challenges.

What is something that would surprise people about you?

I’m a huge sci-fi geek. I like watching B-rated movies and shows like “Sharknado” and “The Orville.” It helps me to unwind and engage in mindless entertainment.
