Mary Jones manages the operations of The Chapel Law Group, which handles a range of personal injury and employment matters from its offices in Kansas City and Jefferson City. Jones’ work includes organizing office activities, helping attorneys stay on top of deadlines, paying bills, preparing invoices to clients, doing payroll and communicating with clients and opposing counsel.
Her nominator praised her for her “dedication to the firm, the firm’s mission and for being an overall amazing person.”
“The key accomplishment for me is organization,” Jones said. “Without that, no office can operate efficiently. Everything from an efficient filing system to informing attorneys and paralegals of deadlines are all very important parts of keeping the office moving forward.”
What led you to choose a career in the legal field?
The legal field found me, I think. We are here in the legal field to help people; help them navigate their way through the legal system to find the best outcome. Knowing in some way I had a small part in assisting the attorney accomplish the best for our client makes me happy.
What is the best part of your job?
I enjoy solving problems or issues and organizing. Tell me what you need to do and I try to find the best, most efficient way to accomplish it or produce it. I enjoy developing and prioritizing my list of “things to do today” and the sense of accomplishment when it is completed. I also enjoy talking to clients.
What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I can’t remember receiving career advice, but the advice I would give is — Do your best in all you do and be kind to everyone.
What is something that would surprise people about you?
When I was younger, I was extremely shy.
