2021 Unsung Legal Heroes: Stacey Houston

Firm Administration: Office Administrator, Williams, Robinson, Rigler & Buschjost

Stacey Houston wears a lot of hats at her small Rolla-based law office.

“A small firm office administrator wears an accounting hat, a banker’s hat, an HR hat, an IT hat, an advertising hat, as well as an administration hat,” her nominator wrote. “We believe Stacey is the best simply because she can do anything and everything.”

Houston manages the day-to-day business operations that keep the firm going, from finance to supervision of administrative staff. During the COVID pandemic, she helped make a business response plan that kept the firm open and safe. She focused on keeping up with various COVID relief bills, both to ensure the firm stayed compliant with the new federal laws and to find beneficial tax incentives.

What led you to choose a career in the legal field?

I was not looking for a position necessarily in the legal field, just something in a finance-related field. I was forced to find new employment after 20 years; that is when I came across the job posting at WRR&B for an office administrator.

What is the best part of your job?

I work with such an amazing team, from our office clerk, receptionist, paralegals, and all the attorneys — they are a great group of people to work with. It takes all of us to do our part to help keep our firm going. I do not consider myself as the “Unsung Hero” because everyone on the WRR&B team is an “Unsung Hero.”

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always own up to your mistakes, learn from them and keep moving forward.
