The POWER List: James H. Young

Law Office of Young, Kuhl & Frick, Lee’s Summit

James Young is the founder of the firm now known as the Law Office of Young, Kuhl & Frick. A 30-year practitioner of family law, he now specializes in full-time mediation in the area of family law.

Young is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and previously served as president of its Missouri chapter. He also has served as chair of the family law sections of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and The Missouri Bar.

Last year, The Missouri Bar presented Young with its Roger P. Krumm Family Law Award.

Young served on the Joint Commission to Review Pro Se Litigation, which studied how to help litigants who represent themselves in court, particularly in family court matters. He also wrote the text for a divorce video published by the bar and serves as a special master for discovery and other financial issues that arise in court cases.

Young earned his law degree in 1980 from the University of Missouri.
