Dowd Bennett, St. Louis
Elizabeth Carver has a wide-ranging appellate practice in both state and federal appeals courts, in cases ranging from employment law to banking and product liability to insurance.
Earlier this year, she was part of the team that won a ruling in the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of an insurer that had been threatened with a class-action lawsuit over its failure to adjust premiums during the COVID-19 pandemic. The court said the claim, brought by an Independence flower shop, had to be brought before the Missouri Department of Insurance first.
In 2017, she helped persuade the Missouri Supreme Court two throw out two large judgments against her clients: a $3.25 million wrongful foreclosure judgment against Wells Fargo, and an $8.6 million judgment for a company that lost its distributorship with an aircraft instrument manufacturer.
Carver is a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and of the American Bar Foundation. Prior to joining Dowd Bennett in 2018, she practiced for 31 years at Bryan Cave, where she led the firm’s appellate client service group.
She earned her law degree in 1984 from The College of William and Mary before clerking for Judge Floyd R. Gibson of the 8th Circuit.
