Husch Blackwell, Jefferson City

Lowell PearsonLowell Pearson is the office managing partner for Husch Blackwell’s Jefferson City office, where he brings significant government experience to bear on legal and tax questions.

Pearson served as Missouri’s Deputy Director of Revenue and general counsel to Gov. Matt Blunt. A one-time law clerk under then-Missouri Supreme Court Judge Duane Benton, he frequently argues cases before that court.

In 2021, he obtained a ruling partially in favor of a company that owns and leases aircraft. The court considered whether the company was entitled to a use tax resale exemption for its out-of-state purchase of aircraft.

Later that year, he was part of one of the highest profile cases of the year, when he helped win a Supreme Court ruling that allowed the voter-approved expansion of Missouri’s Medicaid system to take effect despite a specific appropriation from the legislature. His co-counsel on the case were Joel Ferber of Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and Chuck Hatfield of Stinson, a POWER List honoree for appellate law.

Pearson earned his law degree in 1984 from Stanford Law School. In 2006, he earned an LL.M. in dispute resolution from the University of Missouri School of Law.
