WJA 2022: Emma Mitchell

Emma MitchellSaint Louis University School of Law

Emma Mitchell’s experiences in law school solidified that her childhood dream of working for the government is what she wants today.

As a summer legal intern at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, she said she felt incredibly supported in how attorneys in the office relied on each other for solving problems, and how the office collaborated with other federal agencies.

And as part of the Street Law Club at Saint Louis University, she helped educate children in the local juvenile detention center on criminal law and how it could impact their lives in the future.

And as an intern at the Missouri Attorney General’s Office last summer, she worked on cases involving sex abuse. She hopes to work to defend victims in the future, and especially children.

“So often they’re without a voice, and we get to be that voice for them,” Emma said.

Emma counts among her mentors Amy Collignon Gunn, for whom Emma worked as a summer clerk at the Simon Law Firm, and Jeff Jensen, a Husch Blackwell partner who previously served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District.

Emma graduates law school this year.
