2022 Unsung Legal Heroes: Sandra J. Scherich

Legal Secretary: Legal Secretary, Brown & James, P.C.

Sandra J. Scherich proved herself at Brown & James shortly after being hired.

Her role as administrative support to one principal quickly expanded into providing legal assistance and training for new associates. She’s now been at the firm for five years.

In her current role, she provides legal assistance to a new principal and an associate. She also opens new cases, works with customers on billing inquiries and resolves appeals for the three Kansas City principals. She manages their calendars and prioritizes their tasks after docketing new court filings.

When she was still attending Maryville University, she wasn’t sure of her career path. But after a law firm in her hometown of Bathalto, Illinois accepted her application, she hit the ground running.

“At that point, I knew I really wanted to continue a career in the legal field,” Scherich said.

What is the best part of your job?

I derive great satisfaction from being part of a team, contributing to the success of my Attorneys’ practices, and working with great Attorneys who appreciate my contributions and rely on me to do my part to get the job done.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Whatever you choose as your career you must really enjoy the work because you will be doing it for a very long time.

What is something that would surprise people about you?

In jr. high and high school, I competed as a soloist in local and statewide singing competitions.
