Paralegal: Shook, Hardy & Bacon
Sarah Drum’s workload at Shook, Hardy & Bacon varies greatly, which is one of the things she loves about her job.
“One day my focus may be on activity in a MDL litigation which consists of more than 2,600 cases, the next it may be settlement-related, and the next it may include anything from reviewing literature, publications and legislation to analyzing document productions, preparing for depositions, or assisting with appellate work,” she said. “It’s great and keeps me on my toes.”
Drum said she majored in political science in college at the University of Oklahoma and considered law school after graduation, but wanted to work in the legal field first to see if it was the right fit. After 15 years, she said it is an excellent fit.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Over the years, a few pieces of advice have really stuck with me:
- Never settle, and never give up.
- Never answer a question by saying, “I don’t know.” Instead, go out and find the answer or find someone who can help resolve the question.
- Mistakes are opportunities to grow – own them, learn from them, and move keep moving.
