2022 Unsung Legal Heroes: Veronica J. Caine

Firm Administration: Paralegal/Office Manager/Bookkeeper/Secretary, The Meyers Law Firm

Veronica J. CaineAsk Veronica Caine about her day-to-day duties and she’ll reply that it’s easier for her to list what she doesn’t do.

“I do everything that doesn’t require a Bar license,” she said.

Caine’s nominator describes her as “the glue that has held the practice together” since she joined The Meyers Law Firm in Kansas City 26 years ago. She initially was a legal secretary but “didn’t want to type and file the rest of my life.” In 2000, she obtained a Certified Paralegal designation from National Association of Legal Assistants, which involved a two-day exam on several areas of the law, including essays.

Caine served two terms as the elected president of the Kansas City Paralegal Association.

What is the best part of your job?

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

At the end of the day, write down at least one good thing that happened and keep it, because your memory plays tricks with you. When your day was like drinking water from a firehose, you can come back to your list and remember why you keep doing what you do.

What is something that would surprise people about you?

My dream was to be an opera singer, and I graduated with a Bachelor of Music. I was Honored Queen of Job’s Daughters in 1981.
