Two prominent Kansas City litigators have founded one of the few woman-owned law firms in Missouri.
Nikki Cannezzaro and Michelle Marvel launched Cannezzaro Marvel Trial Attorneys this month. The firm, located near Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza, will focus on plaintiffs’ personal injury work.
Marvel, previously of Bartimus Frickleton Robertson Rader, has long represented plaintiffs in cases involving serious injury or wrongful death. Cannezzaro, previously of Franke Schultz & Mullen, has spent her career defending from such suits.
“It will certainly be a change in perspective,” she said in an interview.
The change, however, allows her and Marvel to bring their significant trial experience to the male-dominated field of plaintiff’s civil litigation.
“We feel like we’re filling a niche that is needed in Kansas City,” she said.
Marvel is the president of Lawyers Encouraging Academic Performance and the incoming president of the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City. She earned her law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2007.
Cannezzaro is a past president of AWL and also has led the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and the Western Missouri/Eastern Kansas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. She earned her law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2000.
Both are recipients of Missouri Lawyers Media’s Women’s Justice Awards — Cannezzaro in 2018 and Marvel in 2022.
