St. Louis County launches Young Lawyers Academy

Staff Report//October 6, 2022

The St. Louis County Circuit Court’s Young Lawyers Academy met for the first time on September 20. The first class of the YLA includes 45 lawyers within their first year of practicing at firms, government agencies and courts.

Judge Mary Ott described the court’s various departments during the meeting.

“Young lawyers do not get to the courthouse as frequently as they used to,” Ott said in a September 21 statement. “Nevertheless, time at the courthouse and contact with judges and peers is important to their professional development and their confidence in the courts.”

Beginning in May 2023, academy members will attend eight sessions free of charge, learning from various St. Louis County judges about civil, criminal, domestic relations, probate, juvenile and treatment matters that the court handles.

According to a statement, the academy is not using taxpayer dollars.
