Andrew MurriePractice Area: Asbestos Litigation

Andy Murrie is an avid marathon runner who completes two or three marathons a year, including the storied Boston Marathon, and he considers the sport a great outlet.

Endurance sports, like long distance running often give people the stamina to prevail in other difficult situations in life, and Murrie’s top accomplishment this year was a daunting task. “Our team had five trial ready cases that were all scheduled around the same time this past spring,” he writes. “We were able to resolve all of them prior to trial and obtain great results for the clients.”

He recalls his favorite moment as an attorney, and it involved his wife who is also an attorney.

“Several years ago, we were sworn in to the United States Supreme Court at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. which was a really rewarding experience,” he writes.

What advice do you have for young lawyers?

I would recommend finding a mentor and trying to surround yourself with older lawyers that can guide you through the first few years of practice. I think the first few years can be the hardest because law school doesn’t really prepare you for the actual practice of law.

What is the best career advice you have received?

Do the hard stuff or the hard stuff will seem even harder.

If you hadn’t become a lawyer, what profession would you have chosen?

My father and grandfather had a family title insurance business. I suppose that was the fallback plan, but after working summers there as a kid, it bored me to tears.
