Managing partner, Milton Law Group, St. Louis
Practice Areas: Tax Controversy & White Collar Defense
Law School: Saint Louis University
When Mark Milton saw the movie, “Jerry Maguire,” starring Tom Cruise, he thought he’d pursue a career as a sports agent. But he says that dream dissipated when he got to law school and became obsessed over another Tom Cruise movie – “A Few Good Men.”
“From that point, my passion for the law turned to just wanting to help people,” he writes. “Today, most of my practice is dedicated to helping people solve their tax problems. It’s rewarding to use my experience to help clients solve a problem they think is unsolvable.”
If you hadn’t become a lawyer, what profession would you have chosen?
I have always admired real estate developers who risk a lot to invest and build lasting properties in their communities. If I had to choose, I would have become a real estate developer. I have also not given up on my dream of bringing an NBA franchise to St. Louis, so professional basketball team owner would be a close second.
What is your favorite activity away from work?
I love to golf. It provides a great outlet for me away from the office and you can learn a lot about people spending five hours with them on a golf course.
What is your biggest accomplishment this year?
This year is our firm’s fifth anniversary. I started the law firm five years ago in my basement. I am very proud of the team we’ve built and the success we’ve had. We have five dedicated team members, a great office space and many satisfied clients.
