2022 Up & Coming Awards: Nathan Lindsey, 36

Member, Rasmussen Dickey Moore, St. Louis

Nathan LindseyPractice Areas:  Insurance Defense, Product Liability, Small Business

Law School:  University of Kansas

A passion for learning the law and how it transfers to real-world problem-solving led Nathan Lindsey to his career as an attorney. Now he enjoys mentoring and inspiring younger attorneys as they build their own careers.

“There’s so much opportunity, challenge and fun to be had as a lawyer and I think each successive generation of lawyers is best at reminding us of that,” he writes.

This year, Lindsey set up a new partnership between his firm and Legal Services of Eastern Missouri to help tackle vacancy in his neighborhood and improve access to affordable housing. He considers this among his most rewarding accomplishments.

What advice do you have for young lawyers?

Don’t pretend you know more than you do because you can learn anything you don’t know.

What is the best career advice you have received?

Professor Mike Kautsch at the University of Kansas always stressed understanding client needs first when problem solving and advocating. I remember how great it felt getting a chance to do that with small businesses downtown during a law school clinic. Whether you are a mom-and-pop shop or a Fortune 100, clients all want to be understood first.

If you hadn’t become a lawyer, what profession would you have chosen?

Urban Planning

What is your favorite thing to do away from work?

Watch my boys grow up and interact with an incredible community of neighbors.

What is something about you that would surprise people?

I made all-state choir in middle school.
