David Overby, along with partner and fellow POWER LIST honoree Kent Hyde, secured the fourth largest defense win in 2021 in a medical malpractice case.

The team represented a Greene County hospital and a doctor in a suit from a woman sought more than $8.5 million in damages after losing the use of her arm due to pain pump complications. The jury, however, found that the doctor performed the surgery correctly and that other health care providers may have contributed to her issues.

Also that year, Overby successfully defended a hospital and its employees who faced claims that a man had broken his tailbone while using the restroom unattended after a knee replacement surgery. He also recently persuaded a jury that cleared a paramedic on claims that a woman was dropped from a gurney while being wheeled into an ambulance.

Overby earned his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1987.
