Ellis, Ellis, Hammons & Johnson Springfield
John Hammons, a shareholder at the venerable southwestern Missouri firm of Ellis, Ellis, Hammons & Johnson, performs transactional work for hospitals and other health care clients.
Hammons has represented a number of rural hospitals during mergers with larger health systems. Examples include the 2013 Skaggs Regional Medical Center sale in Branson and the 2018 sale of Barton County Hospital in Lamar, which both joined CoxHealth.
He also handles litigation for clients in the health care industry. His practice also encompasses business and corporate law, labor and employment law, employee benefit litigation and commercial litigation. Among other notable cases, he was engaged by Missouri State University to conduct an independent review of allegations that the university’s administration discriminated against its Black vice president of diversity and inclusion. The firm found no credible evidence of discrimination.
Hammons previously chaired the Missouri Society of Hospital Attorneys and was a board member of the organization from 1999 to 2003. He earned his law degree in 1989 from Washington University in St. Louis.
