Hyde, Love & Overby, Springfield
Kent Hyde has a string of medical malpractice defense wins to his name throughout southwestern Missouri.
In 2021, he and fellow POWER LIST honoree David Overby represented a Greene County hospital and a doctor after a woman lost the use of her arm due to pain pump complications. She sought more than $8.5 million in damages, but lawyers secured the fourth largest defense win of the year by arguing that the doctor performed the surgery correctly.
Other recent cases include a defense win for a doctor alleged to have missed signs of a fatal infection in a two-week-old baby and a jury victory for a hospital after a 75-year-old patient fell from her hospital bed while recovering from knee replacement surgery.
Hyde is a founding member and chairman of The Bar Plan Mutual Insurance Company’s board of directors. He was first elected as chairman in 2017. He earned his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1984.
