Motorcycle crash suit ends in settlement

A $125,000 settlement was reached in a motor vehicle collision suit involving a motorcycle in Jackson County.

The settlement was awarded to plaintiff Ralph Rude on Nov. 13, 2025. Of the settlement, $25,000 was the policy limit from the adverse driver and $100,000 was the policy limit from the owner of the vehicle

The incident occurred May 10, 2025, when the defendant, Adam Scott, failed to yield the right of way, resulting in a collision between Rude’s motorcycle and the vehicle Scott was driving. Rude suffered road rash, a fractured pelvis and foot injury that required the use of a walking boot.

According to Rude’s attorney, Laurie Del Percio of The Horn Law Firm in Independence, he did not have underinsured motorist coverage. Additionally, the injuries he sustained during the collision affected his daily life.

“Plaintiff’s fractured pelvis and foot injury affected his activities of daily living, especially his ability to get a restful sleep,” she stated.
