Joan Lockwood has built a civil trial practice spanning more than 33 years, earning recognition for her expertise in civil jury instructions and Missouri Approved Instructions (MAI). She has served on the Missouri Supreme Court Committee on Civil Jury Instructions since 2003, appointed its Reporter in 2009 and Chair in 2020.
Lockwood also teaches trial advocacy as an adjunct law professor at Saint Louis University School of Law, where she told students that “effective trial lawyers must be lifelong students.” Her service extends to the National Center for State Courts, and in 2026 she joined the Federal Practice Committee for the United States District Court, Eastern District of Missouri.
