A railroad company received a final total of $417,023 after a jury determined the company was mostly responsible for a derailment involving construction equipment stuck on the train track. The Norfolk Southern Railway Co. had sought $7 million in damages, and the jury technically awarded that amount — but it was reduced by three-fourths as per jury instructions, and then further reduced by three-fourths because of the allocation of fault.

After a bench trial this fall, a small Spring-field bank recovered nearly half a million dollars from a defaulted loan that had been improperly insured. After attorneys’ fees and interest, the bank recovered nearly $90,000 more than the loan’s initial value.

Elco Chevrolet in St. Louis County settled a class action lawsuit for $2 million with customers who were charged document preparation fees. The class included about 17, 113 individuals.

A jury awarded nearly $2 million to 11 people whose Ladue homes were flooded. Their attorney — whose home also was flooded — said 11 more lawsuits are in the works against a contractor blamed for the property damage.

A class action lawsuit against several Jay Wolfe auto dealerships in Missouri resulted in a $7.8 million settlement to the class of roughly 53,000 members. Attorneys’ fees, paid separately from the class recovery, totaled $675,000.
