2021 In-House Counsel Awards: Kathleen S. Molamphy

Vice President, General Counsel – Americas

ICL Americas LLC

Kathleen S. MolamphyDuring her career, Molamphy has done her share of networking to move from private practice into two different in-house counsel positions. In her current role at ICL Americas LLC, she leads the team that manages all legal and compliance matters for their region. ICL is a leading global specialty minerals company with headquarters in Tel Aviv, Israel, and an Americas headquarters in St. Louis. The Americas region includes the entire Western Hemisphere, with operations in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay and Argentina.

At ICL, one of Molamphy’s assignments is serving on the team that leads the alternate protein expansion efforts. “This is exciting because we have new construction in the City of St. Louis, and there are many legal issues to consider,” she says. “Our legal team is participating in a cutting-edge area of the food industry. We get to support ICL’s global efforts from right here in Missouri.”

Even in the midst of the pandemic, she has had the pleasure of continuing to work on exciting projects. This year, she was a member of the team that completed two acquisitions in Brazil.

Outside of work, Molamphy participates in her two daughters’ Irish Dancing and sport activities. She also leads their Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri troop, wrangling almost 20 girls, ages 7 and 8, and engaging them in meetings and activities.

She is also active in the Association of Corporate Counsel – St. Louis Chapter. One of her favorite professional achievements is the national recognition she and the board received for their work. Their Chapter — with more than 600 members — has received Chapter of the Year recognition on several occasions, garnering additional attention for the in-house attorneys of St. Louis. She continues to be impressed by the in-house attorneys in St. Louis and considers this market to be one of the best in the country for in-house legal talent.

If she hadn’t become an attorney, Molamphy probably would have become a travel agent because she loves to travel. She earned a BA in French from Truman State University before earning her JD with a Certificate in International and Comparative Law from Saint Louis University School of Law.

In addition to a rewarding and fulfilling career, Molamphy has also found a way to combine her love of the law with her love of travel. “At ICL, I’ve traveled to new countries, including beautiful Israel, and I’ve met so many people around the globe,” she says. “And I’ve been able to stretch myself to new challenges.”
