{"id":565,"date":"2019-11-12T14:22:53","date_gmt":"2019-11-12T20:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/molawyersmedia.com\/missouriinhouse\/?p=565"},"modified":"2019-11-13T11:03:28","modified_gmt":"2019-11-13T17:03:28","slug":"mary-ann-mackey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/molawyersmedia.com\/missouriinhouse\/2019\/11\/12\/mary-ann-mackey\/","title":{"rendered":"Mary Ann Mackey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PUBLIC COMPANY<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>Assistant General Counsel Bearrister, Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As Mary Ann Mackey tells it, ending up at Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc. was \u201cvery random.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lifelong St. Louis resident was working in the real estate department at Greensfelder, Hemker &amp; Gale in 2007, and she was sitting at the desk of the law firm\u2019s in-house counsel when Build-A-Bear called to say the company was looking for an attorney to do leases for a real estate network.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-566\" src=\"https:\/\/molawyersmedia.com\/missouriinhouse\/files\/2019\/11\/Mary-Ann-Mackey-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mary Ann Mackey\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" \/>\u201cMy daughter was really young at the time, so of course I knew the company,\u201d Mackey said. \u201cEverybody loves Build-A-Bear, and initially I thought he was trying to hire my law firm, not to hire me. But then we go to get coffee, and I realized they were trying to hire me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before long, Mackey said, she had an opportunity to become assistant general counsel, and she couldn\u2019t pass it up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the time, I definitely wasn\u2019t looking [to go in-house],\u201d Mackey said. \u201cI was in a big law firm environment, and I enjoyed it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At Build-A-Bear, the Saint Louis University School of Law graduate has handled contracts, licensing and much more for a company and job that she says leaves her \u201calways excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That enthusiasm is just part of what her nominator admires about Mackey\u2019s career since law school. Aside from calling her \u201chighly respected and dedicated in her work,\u201d the nominator points to Mackey\u2019s volunteer work with several charities, such as Caring for Kids.<\/p>\n<p>Her nominator also lauded her dedication to her three children, writing that she \u201cworks hard to maintain a balance and can often be found picking up her children from school, and then after the children go to bed, work[ing] from home until late.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mackey, who said she treasures the work\/life balance her job allows her, also sits on boards at Sheldon Art Galleries and Build-A-Bear Foundation in addition to involvement in her children\u2019s schools.
