Worst diverse

When President Bill Clinton tapped Judge Diana Murphy for the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 1994, she became the first woman on the seven-state appellate court. Fifteen years later, she remains the only woman on that bench. The 8th Circuit is the worst at gender diversity of all federal appellate courts in the nation. The circuit, which covers Missouri and six other states, has one woman out of 11 active judges. When counting senior judges, it’s one of 17. “Certainly I would really like to have some women colleagues," Murphy said. "It can be pretty lonely.”
