Move by some to merit raises creates new challenges for Missouri lawyers

When large law firms around the country revealed across-the-board associate salary cuts this year, some also declared they were changing the way they dole out raises. They make raises based more on merit now. Salary cuts coming at Bryan Cave firm

Bryan Cave plans to cut salaries of its junior lawyers by 10 percent next month, according to a memo from chairman Don Lents cited Thursday afternoon by the blog Above the Law. A spokesman for Bryan Cave, Luis Mocete, confirmed the memo's authenticity this afternoon but declined to comment further. The memo posted on Above the Law states that in most offices the salary cuts will kick in July 1. However, it says Missouri associates won't see their pay drop until July 13 to follow legal notice requirements.
