Charles Evan Whittaker was the only U.S. Supreme Court justice to come from Missouri or Kansas — he was born near Troy, Kansas, but lived and worked in Kansas City when appointed — as well as the only justice who served at all levels of the federal judiciary. A collection of his work has been given to his alma mater — the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
