A woman whose jaw was broken in a collision received nearly $162,500 in uninsured motorist coverage, according to her attorney.
Laurie Del Percio, lead litigation attorney at The Horn Law Firm, said the crash occurred on April 13, 2020, when an uninsured driver struck the rear of the plaintiff’s vehicle. During the impact, her face struck the steering wheel, leaving her with right-side jaw pain, neck pain and right-side abdominal pain. She was placed in a cervical collar and transported to an emergency room, where she was diagnosed with multiple jaw fractures.
Later that month, the plaintiff followed up with a plastic surgeon as directed for evaluation of her facial fractures. At that time, she was experiencing bloody drainage from her nose and still had swelling to the right side of her face.
She was diagnosed with a nonoperative right zygomatic fracture. Nonoperative treatment was recommended, and she was instructed to elevate her head and minimize pressure over the area.
In addition, she was also instructed to see her ophthalmologist for dilated eye examination to rule out any retinal injury, which her eye doctor ruled out.
Del Percio said photographs of the plaintiff’s injuries, including massive bruising, were key in reaching a successful settlement prior to any litigation.
