A group of four municipal workers who were injured when a negligent driver ran a red light and T-boned their truck reached a global settlement of $900,000, according to their attorneys.

Reginald Stockman and Monica Tanzey of the Stockman Law Firm in Kansas City said the accident occurred on March 3, 2022, on eastbound Truman Road at the intersection with Oak Street. As the white 2020 Ford F-550 entered the intersection, an orange 2019 Subaru Crosstrek traveling southbound on Oak failed to stop.

According to a police report, the truck couldn’t stop in time and struck the right front side of the defendant’s vehicle. They “violently changed direction” and hit another vehicle at the intersection before coming to rest. The third car apparently suffered little damage and its driver was unharmed.

The plaintiffs, who alleged the Crosstrek’s driver was distracted and failed to keep a proper lookout, reached a settlement with the defendant during pre-suit mediation, with the proceeds split evenly. Stockman said the plaintiffs worked for the City of Kansas City and were driving a city-owned truck, but the settlement was reached with a private individual.
