A 24-year-old St. Louis woman injured in a March 2022 two-vehicle collision has settled a personal injury lawsuit against the other driver and his employer for $2.6 million — with a 25-year-old St. Louis County man who was driving the younger woman reaching his own injury settlement of $1.1 million.

Terms of the $3.7 million settlement remain confidential, said lead plaintiff’s attorney Tarun Rana, including the case number, and names of the two plaintiffs, defendants and defense counsel. Redacted records shared by Rana show that the $3.7 million settlement was reached in May and June of this year.

According to Rana and a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department accident report, the driver and his passenger were in a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, traveling northbound on North Broadway near the Angelica Street intersection when a 2020 Toyota Rav4 SUV directly in front made a U-turn in front of their car, causing a T-bone collision.

While the other driver was on the job and, in Rana’s words, “in the course and scope of employment,”

punitive damages and claims against the employer for negligent hiring, training and supervision were ruled out of the case by the judge, he said. As such, the case revolved solely on the negligence of the commercial driver for this incident.

While neither the driver nor his passenger sought immediate treatment, both would later require neck surgery, Rana said. The female passenger also hit her head during the collision and suffered a concussion, for which she also sought treatment.

Rana cited several complicating factors in the case, including a defense argument of on the injured driver’s behalf.
The passenger’s case settled in late May after a second mediation, Rana said, with the driver’s case settling in late June, the weekend before trial, he added.
