GAINESVILLE — The state rested its child abduction case against a son of supremacist pastor Gordon Winrod after testimony from the fathers of six Winrod grandchildren. Stephen Winrod, 34, was arrested last May along with his father, 74, and sister, Carol Winrod, 28. Six of the Gordon Winrod’s grandchildren, ages 9 to 16, had been living on his farm in the Missouri Ozarks since the mid-1990s. After their grandfather’s arrest, the children refused to leave the farm near Gainesville for several days until their grandfather was brought back there from jail and persuaded them to come out. Gordon Winrod was convicted in January on six counts of child and recently sentenced to the maximum 30 years in prison. He denied being an anti-Semite and white supremacist at his sentencing.

Gordon Winrod’s daughter entered an Alford plea to two charges of child abduction, and four charges were dropped. She will be sentenced May 23. Stephen Winrod’s lawyers say there’s no evidence he participated in holding the children at the farm.
