Charles “Chuck” Todt, a longtime St. Louis-area attorney, died on Feb. 12. He was 81 and died after a long illness, according to a press release from his firm, Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard.
Todt was a family law practitioner. He joined Sandberg Phoenix in St. Louis in 2012, after operating The Todt Law Firm in Clayton since the late 1960s.
The lifelong St. Louisan was the son of Phil Todt, first baseman for the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Athletics, according to an obituary in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Todt attended Saint Louis University and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. After college, he was drafted and served in the Army. He attended night law school at SLU while working for State Farm insurance, and then he began his legal career.
He held leadership positions in the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the Lawyers Association of St. Louis and the St. Louis Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Todt enjoyed hunting, golf and restoring old cars, according to the firm’s release.
“When Chuck joined the firm, I was thrilled because we landed a very skilled attorney and a wonderful person,” Sandberg Phoenix Managing Partner John Sandberg said in the press release. “Our sincerest sympathies are with his family and friends and we will always remember the joy that Chuck brought to his clients and co-workers.”
Todt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice, and four children and 10 grandchildren. A memorial service was held Monday.
