Fastest Growing Firm by Revenue

In 2017, Spencer Fane grew its revenue by 24 percent, coming in at $91.1 million for year. That year, it was effectively the 10^th  largest firm in Missouri, coming in just shy of the $100 million cutoff that Missouri Lawyers Media uses for its annual MOney financial rankings.

But it was clear that the firm wasn’t about to flatten out. Revenue grew 22.5 percent in 2018; 17.1 percent in 2019; 16.9 percent (despite the pandemic) in 2020 and 23.4 percent in 2021.

With that double-digit after double-digit pace of growth, Spencer Fane now is the 6^th largest firm in Missouri and posted the highest revenue growth among Missouri’s top firms in 2024, with gross revenue rising 20.7 percent to $321.9 million. Equity partner compensation climbed to $76.3 million, and the firm added nearly 80 attorneys to bring its total full-time lawyer headcount to 593.

Spencer Fane has expanded beyond its Kansas City roots, with offices in four other Missouri cities and in locations ranging from Tampa to Las Vegas. Much of the firm’s growth came from lateral hires, but it also has grown through mergers, including its 2016 combination with Denver-based Berenbaum Weinshienk and the 2021 merger with Bone McAllester Norton in Nashville, Tennessee.
